Commercialisation
The commercial strategy adopted by CRC BID can be briefly summarised as a four-stage process flowing from proof of concept to an established and growing position in the marketplace.
Through its R&D into novel radiotracers and improved detectors, CRC BID expects to create a wide array of commercial opportunities for Australian companies and other organisations to capture a share of new or existing markets in the medical imaging industry, here and overseas.
Among the opportunities identified to date are the:
· |
Production and supply of non-radioactive chemical precursors for the synthesis of the radiotracers; |
· |
Manufacture of ‘bolt-on’ chemistry modules and control software for existing synthesis systems to produce new radiotracers; |
· |
Manufacture and supply of next-generation (smaller, more efficient and cheaper) synthesis systems for on-site production of current and new radiotracers; |
· |
Manufacture of integrated detector sub-systems and software to imaging equipment suppliers for incorporation into next-generation traditional and functional imaging systems; |
· |
· |
Provision of customised imaging solutions. |
In addition, it is envisaged the CRC's research program will contribute towards the development of platform technologies that will enhance Australia's attractiveness as a location for clinical trials of drug candidates—potentially worth hundreds of millions of dollars a year.
