Research Progress

All CRC BID research projects follow a six-phase pathway from initiation to commercialisation and each project must generate sufficient objective data for review by the Strategy and Communications Committee (SACC) before it may progress to the next phase.

The six project phases are:

1. Design
Includes development of specification, modelling of processes and market analysis.

2. Measure
May include data collection, synthesis of precursors and testing of components with measuring equipment.

3. Realise
Demonstrate Proof of Principle and determine if resources are justified for full evaluation.

4. Verify
Extensive testing of systems, tracers and simulations of operational conditions. May include toxicology.

5. Validate
Testing of full concept and construction of prototype instrument in pre-production and field trials. May include human studies and live animal imaging.

6. Deploy
Conduct clinical trials and/or seek commercialisation partner.

Using this sequential approach, a set of molecules or design solutions are progressively filtered to give products that can be deployed. Within each project, at any one time, there are several sub-projects corresponding to individual molecules or detector components. These sub-projects can be at various phases.
