New directors and chair for CRCBID

New directors have been elected to the board of the CRC for Biomedical Imaging Development, following the Annual General Meeting in November 2009.  A new chair was also elected, Dr Bruce Godfrey, who has served as an independent board member for three years, and has also chaired the company’s Strategy and Communications Committee for that same period.

Dr Godfrey welcomed to the board Dr John Morris, who is an independent director, and Mr David Walker, who replaces Ms Christina Hardy as the delegate from the Garvan Institute of Medical Research.  The new directors bring a wide range of experience in technology development and commercialisation.

Dr Godfrey expressed his thanks to Dr Mike Dalling, AM, who stepped down as Chair of CRCBID at the AGM last year, after a period of three years.  “Dr Dalling has provided valuable guidance for the company during its early stages, with his insights into the innovation process.”

Dr Godfrey said he was looking forward to working with his colleagues on the board in gearing up for the commercial focus of CRCBID as it translates its research programs to clinical outcomes and identifies its development priorities.

ISIC Singapore session sets up CRCBID researchers

Research resulting from the CRC for Biomedical Imaging Development (CRCBID) partnerships will be featured in a special session on Biomedical Electronics and Systems for Patient Diagnosis at the International Symposium for Integrated Circuits (ISIC) being held in Singapore in December 2009.

The session was initiated by Dr Ronny Veljanovski, Project Manager for the Detectors Stream of the CRCBID, who is also serving as a Technical Program Committee member of ISIC.The session will provide a series of presentations targeted towards patient diagnosis. The focus is on biomedical imaging applications such as X-ray based computed tomography (CT) using hybrid pixel detector technology.

“I am confident that the session will engage and captivate the audiences,” says Ronny, “by featuring the research and technical developments that the Monash Centre for Synchrotron Science (MCSS) and the Cooperative Research Centre for Biomedical Imaging Development (CRCBID) have produced over recent times. They’ll learn how our work has led to advances in biomedical imaging, as well as how that contribution will continue in the future.”

Researchers and engineering staff at MCSS/CRCBID submitted a total of six papers for peer review for this session, and formal acceptance letters were received in September 2009.

Education seminar offers CRCBID students networking opportunity

A CRCBID education seminar designed to facilitate cross-discipline communication among the research participants of the CRCBID was held in July. Members of the research teams came together over two days to share information and learn about specific projects and their outcomes.

Papers were presented by representatives from both the CRCBID radiopharmaceutical stream and the detectors stream, as well as a session on intellectual property. Participants indicated that the seminar gave them more of a sense of working in a joint venture than on isolated research activities.

Another seminar is planned for 2010.
